
After touring across Canada as the winner of the Eckhardt-Gramatte National Competition, with a program of contemporary Canadian music, Bang Lang Do discovered the joy of presenting new works in an engaging way to an audience. Since then, she has premiered new works by Canadian and American composers: Her Concordance Ensemble commissioned new works by Midwest composers such as Patricia Morehead, David Vayo, Amy Dunker, and gave demo-lectures, workshops and concerts on modern composers at new music festivals, universities, concert series, international conferences and private homes. The latest composer-performer residency with a Canadian organization was in June of 2020: Wesben Artist Residency
She received prizes from national and international competitions such as the Stepping Stone International, the CMC (national Canadian Music Competition), the Joanna Hodges International, The Missouri Southern International, the Baldwin, the "Prix d'Europe", and the “Journée de la Musique Française." Bang Lang has been recorded by the Radio-Canada and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (C.B.C.) in her debuts at various venues in Montreal as part of radio programs such as "Les Jeunes Artistes," "La Voix du Maître," "Radio Concert," "Début Series," "Music from Montreal," and "Arts Tonight." As winner of competitions, she played concerti with the Quebec Conservatory orchestra , the University of Montreal orchestra, and the Houston Civic Orchestra.
She was recipient of many awards and grants from organizations such as the Canadian Arts Council, the ministry of cultural affairs of Canada and France, Faculté des étudesSupérieures, Fonds des Amis de l'Art and FCAR (Fonds pour la formation de Chercheurs et l'Aide à la Recherche.)
In Iowa, she received the "Teacher of the Year" award from the Iowa State Music Teacher Association (IAMTA) in 2016 and was the chair of Theory for that state-wide organization (part of MTNA). She was an Associate Professor at www.dwci.edu (2006-16), and was Interim President to the Faculty Senate.
Her fascination with research in cognitive science and neuroscience has led to published articles (American Music Teacher, Iowa Music Teacher) as well as lectures and poster presentations (CMS, IMEA, Bangkok schools) on the topic of "Music and the Brain", relating research conclusions to applications in music learning and teaching.
In California since 2016, Dr Do teaches at Concordia University in Irvine, Santa Ana Community College, and accompanies. She received an Artist grant by the city of Santa Ana in 2019 to present inter-generational concerts, bringing talented adolescents from the OC Arts school to seniors in their centers. She performed and improvised in concerts for music camp, senior recitals at Universities, community events, composition workshops... Dr Do is on the board of the CAPMT district 8, the CAMTA OC West branch and presented concerts and lectures. Her pre-college level teaching experience includes community schools such as The Peabody Preparatory, the Merit School of Music, the Eckhardt-Gramattee Conservatory and the Northeast Iowa School of Music. She has also taught general music classes in public schools in Baltimore and Chicago. She is a qualified MBSR teacher, a Music Together certified teacher and taught these classes. In 2015, her article, entitled "Memorizing, the Webs We Weave", is published by the American Music Teacher; she presented a poster on Cognitive Science research and music learning at the College Music Society national conference, an interdisciplinary concert with a theater professor at the Grinnell College Summerfest, and performed at the International Trumpet Guild as well as the International Horn Symposium.
In 2014, she presented a workshop at the College Music Society Conference on the Cognitive Application and Benefits of Improvisation, collaborating with St. Louis Symphony Orchestra musicians Rich O'Donnell, Asako Kuboki, University of Iowa improvisation guru Jeffrey Agrell, Concordance Ensemble and guest composer Patricia Morehead.
Also in 2014, while on sabbatical leave, her performances, master class, lectures and workshops were presented in Bangkok, Thailand, California, Northern Arizona University, Santa Fe concert series in New Mexico, University of Missouri in Kansas city, Illinois State University, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Illinois Wesleyan University, and Waldorf college. The few years before, she performed at the IAMTA (Iowa State conference) "All-Star" concert, the Rural Musician's Forum series, The Arts Alive series in Epworth, the Galena Grace church concert series, and the Friday Series at St Luke's in Iowa. International performances include the International Trumpet Guild, the SAYOWE (South Asian Youth Orchestra Wind Ensemble) and many concerts in Thailand, the Ho Chi Minh conservatory guest recital, the Banff center in Canada, Debut series in Montreal, the Holland Music Session summer series in Bergen, and concerts in Faro, Portugal and Paris, France.
